ATV Accident Kills Young Girl

A sixth-grader from Delaware was killed on September 15 in a tragic all-terrain vehicle accident. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that she was driving a 2003 Honda Recon ATV at her grandfather’s house. She became pinned under the ATV after it flipped backward and she hit her head on the driveway. This wrongful death accident shows that children do not have the skills to drive an all-terrain vehicle. They do not have the judgment to use them safely. If they ride along as passengers, they need to be restrained and wear safety gear, such as a helmet. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended that children below the age of 16 do not ride an ATV. The AAP mandates that only persons above the age of 16 with an automobile driving license and some ATV use certification should be allowed to ride these vehicles.
