Officials Award New Jersey Officers for Highest DWI Arrests

New Jersey officials have named two Clifton officers “Top Guns” for their record of stopping drunk drivers. According to a news report in The Clifton Journal, the two officers were hired by Clifton in 2006 and the award highlights the high number of driving while intoxicated (DWI) arrests they made in the year 2010. The female officer, who was one of the award recipients, worked the 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift, which is the shift that tends to involve the most drunk driving cases. It is not clear how many arrests the two officers made, but a Somerdale Officer was responsible for 58 DWI arrests during that same year. Officers who are patrolling at night usually look for any evidence of drunk driving. Drivers that run through a red light, weave in and out of traffic lanes, or who behave erratically could get pulled over.
