One of the unfortunate side effects of Thanksgiving and the holiday season in general in the United States is that the time period typically sees an increase in the amount of driving under the influence (DUI) incidents. As such, police around the country increase drunk driving patrols and sobriety checkpoints at the end of every year, especially in the several days surrounding each holiday.
The holidays are a time for everyone to enjoy, and many festivities often have alcohol present in some manner. However, when such events lead to excess drinking, both physical and mental impairment can lead to poor choices including driving under the influence of alcohol.
