blog home Holidays and Other Fun Stuff Celebrate the Arrival of Spring in Southern California

California SpringtimeAdmittedly, winter has been incredibly mild in southern California this year, but that does not mean that locals aren’t eagerly anticipating the perks of spring in The Golden State. From fresh blooming flowers to longer sunny days, there’s no better season to get out and explore California.

At SLS Consulting, we can’t wait to join in on some of the upcoming spring events and festivals. Here are some of our favorites for March.

Dana Point Festival of Whales – The first two weekends of March are reserved for celebrating the annual migration of gray whales along the southern California coast. In a single day, up to 50 whales may pass by Dana Point, giving sightseers a rare glimpse of the majestic mammals. This is the 43rd Annual Festival of Whales, complete with parade, sand sculpting, concerts, and environmental activities. Nothing beats a day at the beach, especially if whales are involved!

Festival of Colors – Nothing says springtime like brilliant colors and carefree fun. The Festival of Colors in Norwalk allows participants to throw colored powders and dance in celebration of the passing of winter in this modern interpretation of an ancient tradition from India. People of all ages are invited to celebrate on March 8 from 11am to 6pm.

Festival of the Kite – Indulge in a leisurely afternoon of kite flying in Redondo Beach this spring at the 40th Annual Festival of the Kite on March 9. Enjoy the spring air, fly a kite, and compete to win a variety of prizes.

Cherry Blossom Festival – Surround yourself with beautiful pink cherry blossoms and learn about traditional Japanese culture at the Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge on March 22-23. The Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual celebration of spring in a perfect sprawling garden. Origami lessons, live music, and a Japanese-inspired menu are included.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations – You don’t need to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, and for many in California, the day is synonymous with springtime. The LA County Irish Fair and Music Festival provides a full three days of Irish music, food, and culture from March 7-9. Hermosa Beach is hosting its 20th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, boasting an estimated 30,000 people in attendance this March 15. And the OC Market Place will be celebrating all things green on March 16.
