Why You Should Be Seriously Considering Video
As the Internet has evolved, video has become an essential tool for reaching followers and customers. Video is not a static medium and therefore gives you an opportunity to build a rapport with your potential customers and clients more quickly.
Browsers and search engines have become more sophisticated and are picking up more on keywords tagged on videos. What this means to you and your business is that posting videos can help your site show up higher on search engine rankings — which means more traffic to your website.
Therefore, it is important that you seriously consider integrating video into your online marketing plan. Posting a video (or several) on your website/blog and on YouTube will expand your web presence. A simple, well-produced video that acquaints people with why they should choose to do business with you or how you can save them money and time is more valuable than a clever or flashy production that says little about you or your business.
Google’s Disappearing Authorship: What it Could Mean and Why it’s Important
Back in October, Matt Cutts announced that a 15% reduction to authorship was on the horizon. Now, it looks as though the reduction is beginning to take form, as the number of authorship photos being displayed within search results has started to decrease. While it’s unclear at this time what the motive is behind this move, it could be an indication that Google is again moving towards quality content, perhaps limiting authorship to those individual Google+ profile owners who consistently post updates, are in a larger number of circles, and maintain an active presence on Google+.
When Google introduced authorship, its intent was to help associate specific websites and articles with their authors. Many early adopters added the appropriate snippet of code to their website, and voila…their Google+ profile pictures were now showing up within search results. However, setting up authorship wasn’t as simple as adding specific coding to your website.
The Best 2013 Christmas Lights Displays in Southern California
Despite the holiday promotions that seem to appear earlier and earlier in the year, for many southern Californians, the first signs of Christmas often appear as twinkling lights adorning a neighbor’s front yard.
Of course, every year, families are faced with the same dilemma of locating the most dazzling displays of holiday lights. It has even become a tradition for many to drive through various neighborhoods in order to take in the most brilliantly lit and decorated houses in town.
In order to help in this journey, we would like to highlight the best of the best when it comes to Christmas lights in southern California.
What is Google’s Hummingbird Update?
Ever wonder about how your website is reviewed and ranked by search engines like Google? Search engines use bots to “crawl” your site, gather data, and then plug that data into a search algorithm, highlighting what is important and what is spam, resulting in rankings for various key phrases used in web pages.
However, these algorithms are continually updated, which means websites are facing more and more scrutiny to make sure they have relevant content that Internet users are looking for.
Google’s most recent update to its search algorithm, Hummingbird, focuses on finding quality content that people are actually searching for, and does so using queries in the form of questions rather than simply picking out keywords here and there. Unlike previous Google updates, such as Penguin and Panda, the Hummingbird update is more of a complete overhaul of the algorithm instead of a simple upgrade. With such a large change, it is expected that 90% of all searches will be affected by Hummingbird.

The Hidden History of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is just a week away. Of course we all know the story of how the Pilgrims and the Native Americans gathered at the Plymouth Colony (also spelled Plimoth) in 1621 to share a meal and give thanks for a bountiful harvest.
However, did you know that the first official Thanksgiving in the U.S. was held two centuries later?
That’s just one of the many little known facts about one of the most popular holidays in the United States. With the day almost here, we take a look at some other insights into Thanksgiving that you may have never heard.
Creating a Holiday
Actually, the “first” Thanksgiving was described in a letter written by Edward Winslow, the leader of the Plymouth colony in 1621. Unfortunately that letter was lost and was only rediscovered in the 1800s. It wasn’t until a Boston publisher named Alexander Young printed Winslow’s brief account of the 1621 feast and dubbed it the “First Thanksgiving” that the seeds of the holiday we know today were planted. That was in 1841.
